New Year, New Smile! Explore Cosmetic Dentistry

January 5, 2021

At Midtown Dental, we know that your smile is your number one asset! Cosmetic dentistry is about helping you reclaim your smile so you can live your best life with dental procedures that enhance not only the appearance of your teeth but also the functionality of your mouth and, ultimately, the longevity of your oral health. We don’t have any gimmicks, and we aren’t going to try to sell you something you don’t need; we understand that self-consciousness can often reside in a person’s smile, and we love to help people feel good about their smile! Whether you’d like to improve the appearance of your smile, or need to replace or repair lost or damaged teeth, there is a range of services available to help you achieve your best smile.

How does your dentist find a cavity?

Using both dental x-ray and while doing our annual check up, we identify the cavity and assess the need for fillings. Fillings are the protective substance we used to protect your teeth after removing the decay. There are two different types of fillings that we primarily use; direct fillings made from gold, amalgam, and composite, and indirect fillings such as a porcelain crown or inlay.

Cosmetic services at Midtown Dental

  1. Teeth whitening.
  2. Have you always wanted a brighter smile?  Before you consider a whitening treatment for your teeth, it’s important to know that there are different kinds of dental stains and a variety of whitening methods to treat them. You’ll find over-the-counter products, DIYs, and professional whitening options. However, not all of them are equally safe or effective, so it’s imperative that you consult with your dentist about the best whitening option for your specific case. 3. Straightening
  4. Invisalign offers an excellent alternative to metal braces for anyone wanting a straighter smile. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign involves wearing a series of invisible aligner trays, each one custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth. Your dentist will map out a treatment plan and design your sequence of aligner trays to shift your teeth gradually over time. They are more comfortable to wear, easier to keep clean, and the cost is comparable to traditional braces.

  5. Veneers or crowns.
  6. Veneers aren’t just for grandmas! Covering the surface of a broken, replaced, or discoloured tooth with an artificial covering such as a veneer or a crown can significantly improve the tooth’s shape or colour while maintaining durability and functionality. Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured porcelain or resin-composite shells that bond to the fronts of teeth. A crown is a new external surface that fits over your existing tooth (or over top of a new dental implant), restoring the tooth and protecting it from further damage. Talk to your dentist to explore whether a crown or veneer could improve the appearance and functionality of your teeth.

Is cosmetic dentistry for me?

There are many reasons you might consider a cosmetic dental procedure—whether they are aesthetic, structural, or functional. Cosmetic treatments may benefit you if:

  • you smile with your mouth closed because you don’t like the way your teeth look

  • you have lost a tooth or multiple teeth to decay accidental damage

  • you have a broken, cracked, or chipped tooth in need of repair

  • you have crooked teeth or slight malocclusion

  • you’d like to fill gaps or spaces between teeth

  • you’d like to correct discoloured or misshapen teeth to match the rest of your smile

Your cosmetic treatment plan will depend on a combination of your goals and budget. A dentist at midtown is ready to guide you through the process. Read more about tooth replacement options here.
