At Midtown Dental, the oral hygiene of children is our specialty. The first dental visit sets the stage for healthy oral care habits, and regular dental visits can prevent anxiety and tooth decay, both of which have lasting effects for your child’s oral health. We offer the fun of Kidtown to help mitigate any anxiety and make regular dental visits exciting for our little patients!
When should I bring my child in for their first check up?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends that you bring your child in for their first check up 6 months after their first tooth breaks or at 1 one year of age, whichever comes first. This helps to guide your little one on a path of good oral hygiene, alleviate dental anxiety, as well as allow you to ask questions about best practices for those little pearly whites. Tooth decay in infants and children can having lasting effects
While baby teeth are impermanent, they serve an essential part in the development of the jaw. Not only can tooth decay turn into a terrible infection, but the removal of those baby teeth can also prevent the jaw from growing large enough to accommodate adult teeth, leading to malocclusion (crowded teeth, misaligned bite, and more). If you want to read about preventing dental decay, we have some more information here.
